Monaco: tax, residence and citizenship

A compact European base where genuine residence and nationality matter.

Tax relocation in Monaco

The French tax authority confirms that Monaco does not impose individual income tax on its residents, while treaty rules generally subject relevant French nationals to French income tax. This does not determine taxation of UK income or the UK departure position.

Residence rights

The official guide requires appropriate accommodation and evidence of sufficient income or resources. Non-EEA nationals generally need the relevant French-issued settlement visa before the residence-card process. Do not advertise an assumed universal bank-deposit minimum.

Second citizenship

Residence permission does not confer citizenship. Any later nationality application is a separate process.

What to establish first

  • nationality, housing, banking acceptance, activity permissions and continuing taxes abroad.

Consider the trade-offs

  • The French-national treaty exception is material, including for a dual-national household. Other countries can continue to tax source income or treat a person as resident.
These are research findings, not an individual eligibility or tax determination. Confirm current rules and your circumstances before committing funds or moving.
